What is your price for peace of mind every day at work?
A seminar participant came up to me at the mid-morning break and declared that he agreed with me that everyone should have a passion about work, but he had 4 kids under the age of 12 and he would do what he loved to do (sell real estate) when he “retired†from this governmental job with the great benefits. He said with pride that he dabbled in real estate on his off hours; therefore, he was not totally without the joy of doing what he loved to do. He has a friend who pays him $1000 for every client he refers that buys or sells a house. Since he is “good at real estate†he sends his friend about 3 to 4 leads a month! (Where was this guy when I was in real estate sales?) I refocused him to the price
he was paying to work without passion on his real job. He worked at the government job 2 weekends every month as well as all through the week. He dabbled in real estate on his off weekends. He has 5 children under the age of 12 who get any “left-overs†of his time. When those kids are grown, will they have wanted more time with daddy or more time without daddy? He was speechless and sort of hung his head. I then noted to him that he was already “doing real estate sales†and accomplishing the hardest things about it, that is, get clients! Why not go for it instead of taking a measly $1000 3 or 4 times a month to miss your kids growing up.
What is peace of mind at work?
- Knowing your family is priority one and they know it, too.
- Doing something you love to do and the family knows that, too.
- Training up a child in the way he or she should go, that is, setting them up for peace of mind because they have seen you achieve it by actually rearing them not missing them.
Again: What is your price for peace of mind every day at work?
